philippinesThe Philippines has order a ban on the deployment of its workers in 41 countries that had allegedly failed to safeguard them from abuse. The Philippines government had declared that these countries which include nations such as Afghanistan, Libya and Sudan, did not sign agreements to protect foreign workers. Countries such as India and Cambodia were also included in the list as the government believes that they have not provided an adequate guarantee that workers will be safe from abuse. Critics of these proposals say the ban could actually be detrimental for Filipinos as it could drive them to work illegally, with even fewer safeguards than they had before. The Philippines has nine million of its citizens working overseas, whose economy is heavily reliant on the remittances sent home.
