According to the Grant Thornton International Business Report (IBR) 2011, the proportion of women in senior management positions has decreased. Women currently hold 20 percent of senior management positions globally, down from 24 percent in 2009. Global head of public policy and external affairs, April Mackenzie, said that some businesses need to reconsider and re-examine the levels of support they offer women, so that they will meet the quotas on female board representation, as some emerging markets have advanced ahead of the competition, while a solution is currently taking discussion in some countries. The number of women in senior positions has increased by 7 percent from the 28 percent recorded in 2009. The percentage of women in China holding senior management positions also rose to 34 percent this year from 31 percent in 2009. This is followed by HR Director (20 percent). Chief Marketing Officer and Sales Director (both 9 percent). Thailand leads the way with 30 percent of the companies employing female Chief Executive Officer, followed by mainland China (19 percent), Taiwan (18 percent) and Vietnam (16 percent).
